Welcome to our Newest Member, Oceanside Vintage!

Please help us welcome our newest member, Bunny Fallon at Oceanside Vintage, aka Velvet Underground.
Bunny says: "Velvet Underground Vintage was started in a basement in 2004 with a desire to save the never ending flood of cast off clothing  found everywhere. What others thought hideous and flamboyant was to me bursting with life and character. I loved that there was only one to be had and it should be treated as precious ..and rare. Each piece  was  lovely and had its own personality.

"Almost a year later there was so much (due to the throwing out and away with these lovelies) that it was time to  share it. Thus Velvet Underground was born again as was I in  another basement of a thriving downtown business in Ellsworth, Maine.  From there I has started a following for these rare and fun pieces. By that time I also had acquired accessories because when you make a statement by wearing vintage..you do it in a big way!

"By 2011 I created  an online store with a shop above ground this time. My online shop can be found on Etsy.com. Velvet Underground Vintage was the starting place for my visions and I hope you can see and feel what vintage is all about here on my site. I dreamed of a place where I could create beauty and boldness..and voice my feelings with my clothing. Here I share it with you..you see ...

"Dreams really do come true. Thanks for stopping by and if your anywhere in the area come by and visit. I love meeting people..I love vintage and I love meeting people who love vintage too!"

Visit Oceanside Vintage at 18 Willage Green Way, and check out her fun website at: http://www.velvetunderground.us or her fabulous facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Velvetundergroundvintage !

Public Hearing to be held for the Unemployment Reform Blue Ribbon Commission
AUGUSTA – Unemployment Reform Blue Ribbon Commission co-chairs Daniel E. Wathen and George M. Jabar, II. announced today that a public hearing will be held on Thursday, September 12, from 1:00 – 7:00 PM in Room 202 in the Cross Office Building in Augusta.
“Not everyone can take a day off from work and drive to Augusta,” the former Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Court, Daniel Wathen said. “The Commission is looking forward to hearing from all sides of this ongoing discussion and that is why we’ve decided to extend the hours of the public hearing.”
The Unemployment Reform Blue Ribbon Commission, which includes employer representatives David Walck and Shawn Anderson, as well as employee representatives Kristin Aiello and Christine Hastedt, has been meeting with representatives at the Maine Department of Labor and the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation over the last two months leading up to the public hearing.
The Commission has also been reviewing hundreds of claims made through the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation in order to examine the consistency and objectivity of the unemployment adjudication process.

Anyone interested in testifying before the Commission must sign up upon arrival, and will be given 3 minutes to speak.  This requirement will help to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to testify before the Commission.  If anyone wishes to provide written testimony to the Commission, they are asked to bring 7 copies. A written copy of the testimony is not required.

If anyone is unable to attend the hearing and wishes to submit testimony, they may do so by sending a physical copy to 181 State House Station, Augusta ME, 04333-0181 or via email to unemploymentbrc@outlook.com. The commission will receive and review submissions for 7 days following the hearing.

WHAT HAPPENED TO SUMMER?
August was a whirlwind, and now for a little slower pace.

The performance art play  "On the Edgewas a success beyond all expectations! Dennis Damon did a stellar performance which had the audience mesmerised. It was a full house for both performances.
Eva's script succinctly told the story of all year Island living, particularly on Matinicus island, 20 miles off the coast of Maine. Phil's paintings of island living completed the story . Very little was left to the imagination. In case you missed it, photos of the performance and a selection of Phil's paintings are shown below.
Rob Snyder, the new president of the Island Institute, answered many questions from the audience about problems and solutions for sustaining future island populations.
The show was televised by award winning Jeff Dobbs, of Dobbs Productions, as a documentary for  Maine and National public television.

Our next guest exhibit in the gallery will feature paintings Charles Dickinson, Penny Evans, and Chris Gray. Charles is a great plein air painter. Penny Evans, who originally hales from England does lovely small watercolors, and Chris Gray paints very dramatic Mt. Desert island scenes and beautiful portraits. He is also a professional musician, playing the uillean pipes, great Highland pipes, Irish whistle, and bagpipes. Check out his website, mdipiper for purchasing his wonderful cd's of Celtic music. They are a treat.
He will be playing music in the gallery the night of the artist reception which is at 5 PM on September 3rd. Their show will be in the gallery until September 23rd.
Phil will be exhibiting some of his latest paintings  he did for On the Edge.
