Welcome to new Chamber Member, Beal and Bunker Ferry Service!

You've known them for years as the primary ferry service from Northeast Harbor to the Cranberry Islands - please join me in welcoming Beal and Bunker Ferry Service to Acadia Chamber!

"Beal & Bunker has operated a ferry service between the Cranberries and Northeast Harbor since 1950. In 2018 brothers Joe Flores and Paul Hewes took over the year round Ferry Service to ensure that Islanders and Tourists would have a reliable source of transportation.

"Being raised on the islands, both brothers have a personal connection to the business and the communities that they serve. Paul began deck handing at 14, his younger brother Joe soon followed in his footsteps at just 11 years old as a volunteer, and later a crew member himself. Both brothers have a passion for the water and love meeting new people and helping their local community. Neither Joe nor Paul ever dreamed that one day they would be the proud owners of the business that was such a vital part of their lives."

Memorial Service for Coda's Jeff Russell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend Jeff Russell, Chef de Cuisine at Coda Restaurant. Jeff passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2020. Jeff worked with us for 4 years. During that time, he worked his way up from a line cook to a chef who led our kitchen with passion and integrity. Jeff’s passion for cooking was contagious. He took pride in being able to mentor young chefs and loved having the opportunity to watch them learn, grow, and succeed. One of his favorite ways to do this was by volunteering as a guest chef at "Friday Feasts" at The Community School of Mount Desert Island. To make sure that Jeff's legacy lives on, we are setting up a memorial scholarship in his name. This scholarship will provide assistance to a young student who is attending The Community School.

We will be hosting a memorial and evening of remembrance at Fogtown Brewing Company on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 5-8pm. There will be Fogtown beer on tap and wood-fired sausages from Colvard and Company. All food proceeds will be put into the memorial scholarship fund, and additional donations toward the fund will be accepted that evening as well.
